Are Bolivia stamps public domain?
Bolivian stamps issued in 1975 or earlier are public domain in 2026 when no designer is named, in the archive's reading of Wikimedia Commons. A stamp with a named designer stays protected until 50 years after that designer's death. The cutoff moves forward each January. Commons also notes that Bolivian law charges commercial users of public domain works a fee.
Why 1975?
Bolivia's Law No. 1322 of April 13, 1992 protects a work for 50 years after its author's death, and an anonymous or pseudonymous work for 50 years after it is made known, both counted from January 1 of the next year.1 Commons' stamp note applies the 50-year figure to stamps and accepts those published before January 1, 1976, a date the page recalculates each year.1 The license tag it names covers anonymous works 50 years after publication and other works 50 years after the death of the last-surviving author.2 The archive reads the note with the tag: an uncredited stamp counts from its year of issue, and a stamp with a named designer from that designer's death.

Bolivia stamps and the public domain: questions
- Are Bolivian stamps public domain?
- Older ones can be. In the archive's reading, a Bolivian stamp with no named designer is public domain 50 years after its year of issue, which in 2026 covers stamps from 1975 or earlier. A stamp with a named designer stays protected until 50 years after that designer's death.
- Can I use public domain Bolivian stamps commercially?
- Yes, but Bolivian law charges a fee. Article 60 of Bolivia's 1992 copyright law makes use of public domain works free, but anyone using them commercially must pay the state a fee.
- Does the 1975 cutoff for Bolivian stamps change?
- Yes. A Bolivian stamp with no named designer is public domain 50 years after its year of issue, in the archive's reading, so the 1975 cutoff moves forward one year each January as another year of issues passes 50 years.
