Copyright law in Mexico
The archive has not been able to settle the details of Mexico stamps specifically. Here is its reading of the copyright law of Mexico, and how it reaches a general answer from it. A design answers Likely yes or Likely no only when every term that could apply agrees, and Unclear when they disagree.
- Government works
- Federal, state and municipal government works are protected for 100 years after publication; earlier terms were 50 years (1982) and 30 (1963), and before that none. It is not settled whether a stamp is a government work.
- Named designer
- 100 years after the designer’s death
- Work of the state
- 100 years from issue
- Note
- Government works had no copyright under the 1928 code, then 30 years from 1963 and 50 from 1982. It is not settled whether the extensions revived works already free.
Historical issuers read under this law: Campeche, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Cuautla, Cuernavaca, Guadalajara, Mérida, Sinaloa, Tlacotalpan, Yucatán.
