Are Sweden stamps public domain?

Swedish stamps have no public domain cutoff by date: Wikimedia Commons says Swedish stamps do not seem to have a copyright exception. In the archive's reading, a Swedish stamp becomes public domain at the end of the 70th year after its last designer or engraver died. Commons' own note names only the engraver.

Why no fixed date?

Commons says Sweden's Act on Copyright in Literary and Artistic Works (1960:729) protects a work until the end of the 70th year after its author's death.1 Commons says Swedish stamps do not seem to have an exception from that rule, so it dates them from the death of the engraver.1 A 2008 comment on a Commons talk page quotes the Swedish post, Posten, as saying that stamps are protected under the copyright act and may not be pictured without permission; a 2009 reply in the same discussion gives the engraver's death plus 70 years as the term.2 The act's exemption for official material covers laws, ordinances, decisions and statements by Swedish authorities, and Commons does not apply it to stamps.1

Copyright law in Sweden

The archive has not been able to settle the details of Sweden stamps specifically. Here is its reading of the copyright law of Sweden, and how it reaches a general answer from it. A design answers Likely yes or Likely no only when every term that could apply agrees, and Unclear when they disagree.

Sweden stamps and the public domain: questions

Are Swedish stamps public domain?
Only once the term has run out. In the archive's reading, a Swedish stamp becomes public domain at the end of the 70th year after its last designer or engraver died, because Swedish stamps do not seem to have an exception from copyright. There is no single cutoff year.
Can I use Swedish stamps without permission?
Not while a stamp is in copyright. The Swedish post, Posten, was quoted in 2008 as saying stamps are protected under the copyright act and may not be pictured without permission. A Swedish stamp is free only once 70 years have passed after the end of the year its last designer or engraver died.
Are old Swedish stamps public domain?
Not on the date alone. In the archive's reading, an old Swedish stamp is public domain once 70 years have passed after the end of the year its last designer or engraver died. Swedish stamps do not seem to have an exception from the copyright act, so the issue year does not decide it.
